But we think that Twitter does offer some very useful benefits that may not be immediately obvious. (At least they certainly weren't all that obvious to us at first.) But once you actually start using Twitter, you begin to understand what all the fuss has been about.
Twitter is a free service that lets you subscribe to receive very short (140 characters only) 'tweets' (messages) from friends, family members and businesses. It also allows you to broadcast your own brief messages to your own subscribers as well.
How Does It Work?
To start you simply sign up for a free account at www.twitter.com. Once signed up, you can then subscribe to receive 'tweets' from people or businesses that you know. You can also send out your own tweets to friends and family. Twitter tweets are one way only broadcasts. They are just short updates from the people or businesses that you have decided to follow on your Twitter page. And of course you choose who you follow and for how long. As soon as you are tired of getting tweets from someone, you can just delete them from your Twitter list. You can get these updates by going to your Twitter web page, or on your cell phone, or through any one of the hundreds of different add-ons and plugs-ins you can get for Internet services or software packages. Most people however just use their Twitter webpage to read their latest tweets.
Tweets can be sent out at any time and at any frequency, but many people send out several a day. Of course you don't have to be always watching for tweets. You can just visit your personal Twitter page once every so often to read all of the updates. And because each message is limited to 140 characters, the messages are short and to the point and don't take very long to read.
