Hand laying your own HO #6 Turnouts is not as hard as you might think! Tools and technology designed and manufactured by Fast Tracks now makes it possible for you to build your own high quality, NMRA compliant turnouts.

With this HO #6 turnout assembly fixture, you can build an unlimited supply of turnouts when you need them, at the comfort of your own workbench, in about an hour. Fast Tracks, the developer of the turnout assembly fixture system, have been producing its line of extremely precise tools since 2003. We've worked out all the details to make building trackwork as easy as possible so now any modeler can produce the most precise, best looking and smoothest operating trackwork available.

Build turnouts that not only look great, but will completely eliminate track related derailments and frustration.

Fast Tracks assembly fixtures will help you build high quality hand laid track that:

  • Is Highly Accurate - Build turnouts that stay in perfect gauge - permanently
  • Performs Perfectly - Completely eliminates track related derailments
  • Is Economical - Build hundreds of turnouts with one fixture
  • Is Easy To Build - No special skills needed
  • Can Be Built Quickly - Build a turnout in less than an hour!
  • Looks Great! - Get results that rival even the most experienced modelers
  • Lets You Work in Comfort - Build trackwork at your workbench
  • Is NMRA Compliant - Will work with any NMRA compliant equipment

Each assembly fixture can be used to build right or left Turnouts.

To finish off your trackwork, add our matching QuickSticks to your order. These laser cut, wood ties will make finishing turnouts a snap, simply glue the full set of pre-cut ties to the turnout and it's complete! We also offer traditional single piece wood turnout ties as well. All of these additional items can be added to your purchase by selecting them from the options list above.

If you order a Fast Tracks assembly fixture, we highly recommend that you consider purchasing matching PointForm and StockAid filing tools. This will make the construction of the switch and frog points much easier.

In addition to code 100 rail, you will also need to purchase matching 0.0625" (1.6mm), (7 scale inches) thick, CopperHead PC board turnout ties manufactured by Fast Tracks.

To finish off your trackwork, add our matching individual wood ties to your order. All of these additional items can be added to your purchase by selecting them from the options list above.

I found all the tools I bought from Fasttracks to be quality tools. I did have a few issues, though, that are worth noting. First, I had a hard time getting the MicroEngineering rail to seat properly in the fixture's grooves at first. I had to tap in the rails with a heavy object. Then, I had a hard time getting the rails out. But by the time I built my fourth turnout, this loosened up and I am now able to insert and remove rail much more easily. Second, the grooves for the guard rails are just a tad too close such that the rail base sits on top of the stock rail slightly, keeping the guard rails at an angle and so they do not lay flat in the fixture. For my fourth build, I removed the turnout from the fixture and soldered the guardrails outside of it (freehand). I think that for my fifth turnout, I will file the base of the stock rail slightly to allow the guardrails to seat flat in the fixture's groove. Third, I felt that the Fasttracks solder (.02" diameter) was too thin and easily bent away from the target. I had some .032" diameter solder that was a little easier to work with. Lastly, I was disappointed that the predrilled spike holes on the quicksticks were only at a few strategic locations instead of on every tie.

The jig for the turnout (points) assembly is well engineered. The standard of the jig allows accurate and consistent turnouts (points) to be produced. I have no hesitation in recommending the Fast Tracks turnout (points) jig to other modellers.

I found the fixture a true gem to work with although the first couple of turnouts took a bit of struggle for the rails to get in & out. I tried using Bachmann Flex Track rail (of which I had plenty) but failed getting it into the fixture. Ended up using Atlas rail which worked without any problems. The fixture is highly recommended for anyone who wishes to have trouble-free turnouts on their layouts. And it looks great too! The only thing missing is the spike holes in most of the ties on the pre-drilled Quicksticks which I believe is an absolute must to greatly improve the appearance of the finished turnout (even if the spikes are not structurally needed because of Pliobond). Overall - a must-have product for model railroaders!!!
