The wire that should have been included with your Tortoise™ switch machine!

The wire that is included with Tortoise switch machines is .022" in diameter. While this works OK for commercial turnouts that have not been installed and ballasted, it can prove to be a bit flimsy for hand laid switches once they are installed and ballasted in place.

This wire is .037" in diameter and is the perfect size for hand laid switches. It will transmit ample power from the switch machine to the switch points, but is not so strong that it damages the throwbar. This size wire can be difficult to find, and usually a compromise has to be made resulting in wire that is too stiff and can break the solder joints at the throwbar.

Each piece is 12" (.93mm) long. Do not cut this wire to length using your Rail Cutters! Be sure to use a hardened pair of side cutters instead.
